The biggest worry with AI: that it makes something up

Almost every business owner considering AI in customer contact asks the same question: what if the agent makes something up? A wrong price, a promise you cannot keep, an answer that makes no sense.

That is a fair concern. An AI model that is free to talk sometimes talks too freely. That is exactly why Heyloha is built to prevent it: your agent answers from your own content, stays within clear behaviour rules, and brings in a human at the right moment. In this article we explain how.

Grounded in your own content

Your agent pulls answers from the knowledge you add: your website and your documents. It is explicitly set up to trust that content over the model's general knowledge, and to consult that content on every factual question.

Just as important is the reverse rule: the agent must not claim what is not in your content. If it does not find a well-supported answer, it would rather say so honestly than make up something plausible. That keeps answers grounded in what you have actually provided.

It knows when it does not know something

A good agent knows its limits. When a question falls outside your content, Heyloha does not guess. Instead, the agent says it is not sure, or it hands the conversation over to a human. Not knowing and admitting it is better than a confident wrong answer.

We measure the quality of answers

Alongside the rules set up in advance, we also look at things afterwards. Heyloha runs automatic evals (evaluations) on the answers. These check, among other things, groundedness (did the answer stay within the retrieved knowledge?) and whether the agent is not promising more than it can deliver.

That way we get insight into quality and see where things can be better, instead of relying on gut feeling. This evaluation runs in the background and has no impact on the speed of your conversations.

Built-in behaviour rules (guardrails)

On top of your own settings, every agent has a fixed set of behaviour rules that always apply, in every language we support:

No medical, legal or financial advice, but a referral to a professional instead. No opinions on politics, religion or other sensitive topics. Never asking for passwords, social security numbers or payment details. And when there are signals that someone is in distress, the agent responds calmly and points to professional help rather than playing counsellor itself.

The agent also stays in its role. It will not be talked into changing its name, behaviour or instructions, and it stays on topics that belong to your organisation. That is at the same time a defence against people who deliberately try to mislead the AI.

A human stays in the loop

AI does not have to do everything on its own. For complaints, emotional conversations or complicated legal or financial questions, the agent hands the conversation over to a person. And when a colleague joins in, the AI steps aside.

On the email channel the agent goes a step further: it only writes a draft. A human reads it over and presses send. The agent never sends anything itself. That way you stay in control of what actually goes out.

Only what the agent can really do

The agent does not promise things it cannot carry out. It first checks what is possible before it commits to anything. And it can only transfer to the colleagues or departments you have configured in advance, never to a number that pops up somewhere in a conversation.

And your customers' data stays protected

Quality and privacy go together. On your chat channels, personal data is shielded before a conversation goes to the AI model, and your data stays within the EU. You can read more about that on our security page.

Reliable AI is no accident

An AI agent that gets things right does not happen by itself. It is the result of grounding in your own content, clear behaviour rules, measuring quality and a human who can take over at the right moments.

Frequently asked questions

Can the AI make things up or hallucinate? Heyloha is built to limit exactly that: the agent answers from your content, must not claim what is not in it, and says so when it does not know something. On top of that, we automatically evaluate answers on groundedness.

What if the agent cannot handle a question? Then it does not guess. It indicates that it is not sure or hands the conversation over to a colleague.

Does the AI give medical or legal advice? No. Fixed behaviour rules forbid that; the agent refers you to a professional.

Can someone talk the AI into changing? The agent is locked to its role and instructions and does not change them at a user's request.
